As Charles Caleb Colton will say “Did universal charity prevail, earth would be a heaven and hell a fable…”
In the case of Mrs. Blessing Afunaya, earth didn’t seem like heaven to her. Mrs. Blessing Afunaya , a 35year old widow, who resides at NO.10, Ipodo Street, Ikeja Lagos with her three (3) sons, lost her husband 2yrs ago, when she was pregnant with the last child. She is a petty trader who sells corn and when the season of corn is over, she goes into the business of frying potatoes and yam at Seriki Aro Street, still in the commercial city of Lagos, Ikeja.
She was overwhelmed with joy glaring all over her face, when the team led by Mr. Gregory Azemobor – the convener of Voice of Divine Truth International Outreach A.K.A Voice of Change, paid her a visit today July 14, 2018, during our outreach. When the team got there, the team leader asked after her welfare and that of the kids, wishing to know how they have been faring.
But she burst out in tears and notified the team leader that they are now homeless, she took the team to her place that has been demolished by a private owner, who bought the house they reside, without any compensation but just gave them an extensive deadline of two months to move out of the compound. She was not the only one staying there; she stays there with some other widows and a Mallam who sells cucumber at the front of the building.
The team went there with the intention to empower her with N20,000 to add up to her petty business, but on getting there met another issue which is the demolition of their building. The team encouraged them not to give up and make them understand that God who watches over the birds in the sky and the animals in the bushes, who has no home, will watch over them and cater for their needs. The team leader also promised to check on them from time to time to know how they are faring. After which the cash donation of N20,000 was given to her.
